History of Puppetry
in Canada

Tom Vandenberg

Tom Vandenberg began in puppetry as a teenager in 1972, and soon made it his full-time occupation. Performing one-man shows with his company T.V. Puppetree, he covered an extensive school circuit in Southern Ontario. Vandenberg is well known for the variety of special effects he uses in his shows, and has authored a publication on the topic. In addition to being past president of the Ontario Puppetry Association, Vandenberg has worked on several television programs, including Fraggle Rock. He has also created numerous puppets for television, such as the cast of the ACTRA-nominated program, The Adventures of Snelgrove Snail. Vandenberg continues to perform puppet shows throughout the Toronto area and takes part in puppetry festivals.
